GRAFTON—The sounds of angelic voices filled the air around the International Mother’s Day Shrine on Saturday night, as choral groups from Grafton City Hospital performed in front of a packed house, during their concert titled “A Candle of Hope.”
Members from the Grafton High School Entertainers and the Grafton High School Concert Choir presented numbers including Victor C. Johnson’s In Winter, Irvin Berlin’s White Christmas and Carol of the Bells arranged by Steve Kupferschmid.
In addition, Michael Hanlin, an English teacher from the high school performed a couple numbers on the Mother’s Day Shrine’s piano.
The students, under the direction of Christopher Dickey, Director of Vocal Music at GHS, led the guests in an old-fashioned Christmas Sing-A-Long. Famous Christmas tunes filled the building including O Come All Ye Faithful, Away in a Manger, The First Noel and Silent Night.
After their performance, Dickey asked the audience by a show of hands how many of them had previously sang for one of the school’s choirs. After an abundant amount of hands were raised, Dickey told his students that the choirs have extended far and wide.
“See students, see how many of these people are your people?” he shared. “All of these people were part of one of your choirs, and they have come back to see you perform, just as they once did.”
According to International Mother’s Day Shrine board members, they were happy to have the students come a perform at the church. They said that it is always a pleasure to be able to provide a location for organizations wishing to showcase the talents of their members.
