Bharathidasan Government College for Women begins its golden jubilee celebrations
On Thursday noon, several students of the Bharathidasan Government College for Women were engrossed in cooking. They were preparing cake balls, dates burfi, chocolate sundae and other delicious desserts, competing with one another at the fireless cooking competition organised on the campus.
Rajiny Chanolian, Assistant Professor, PG and Research Department of Home Science, who was coordinating the event, said that fireless cooking competition was one of the several held as part of the college golden jubilee.
Nearly 79 students participated in the cooking competition and the best five were given prizes. “The team of students which prepared black forest truffle, chocolate mousse and cake balls bagged the first prize,” she said. The students brought in original ideas to prepare chocolate dessert, fruit custard, ragi delight and even biscuit pudding.
With the concept of women’s empowerment, the college held rangoli competition on the theme of “gender equality” on Thursday morning. At least 57 students participated in the competition using different colours to draw rangoli. Ms. Chanolian added that the college had organised mehendi competition in which at least 140 students participated and five best performers were selected as winners.
The students will soon compete in hairdo competition. Apart from these off- stage competitions, the college is organising on-stage competition including solo dance and song competitions which will be based on poet Bharathidasan’s songs. “There will also be group dance and song competition, story writing and elocution based on Bharathidasan’s perspective of women,” she said.
