CHENNAI: Visitors thronging the Marina on Sunday evening were in for a surprise when transgenders approached them with a friendship band. “We are your friends. Please accept this gift,” they told the visitors .
Members of a group Thamizhi – Tamil Transgender Art, Literature and Cultural movement, took part in the novel Friendship Day celebration. “Generally, people tend to see us as a nuisance. We want to change this perception about transgenders ,” said Priya Babu, secretary of the group. The group’s president, Kalki, said that on Friendship Day, they wanted to spread good will and cheer . Students from several colleges took part in the celebration.
